Biography

Oskar Berenson (1892-1939), major in the cavalry of the Polish Army; graduate of the Belgian Royal Ateneum in Chimay (1912), then a student of philosophy at the University of Brussels; at the same time a member of the Brussels section of the Active Combat Association; after the outbreak of World War I, he made his way to Poland and joined the 1st World War. After the outbreak of World War I, he made his way to Poland and joined the 1st Regiment of the Polish Legions' Uhlans, with whom he went through the entire combat route - he was interned between 1917 and 1918; from 1918 on, he served in the 1st Szwoleżer Regiment of the Polish Legions. Just before the outbreak of the war he was transferred to the 12th Podolski Cavalry Regiment, to the position of quartersmaster - during the Polish campaign he took part in the battle of Mokra, where the Volhynian Cavalry Brigade successfully stopped the German 4th Cavalry Regiment. Armoured Division, then in reverse fights, in the battle of Cyrusowa Wola; he died on the battlefield on September 14th 1939 at Wiązowna Street, while breaking through to Warsaw. Berenson was awarded the Cross of Valour and the Cross of Independence three times.
