Biography

Air Sgt. Oscar Berkowitz (1915-1942) service number 205434, South African Air Force 24 Sqdn, was the son of Saky and Fanny Berkowitz of Johannesburg; husband of Esther Berkowitz and father of Sandra Berkowitz of Durban. He was killed in action in a Douglas Boston Mk III #AL674 which was shot down by flak attacking tanks in North Africa. He is commemorated at the Alamein Memorial, Egypt, Column 268 and at the National Jewish War Memorial, West Park Cemetery, Johannesburg.
