Biography

Gunner Theodore Louis Biccard (1921-1942), service number 108856, South African Artillery 2A.A. Regt was the son of Richard Charles and Rosa Bertha Biccard (nee Barlinsky) of Oxford Street, Observatory, Cape Town. He was captured and was a POW in Italy. He died at the age of 21 from amoebian malaria and anaemic organic decay, whilst a POW, at Lucca Military Hospital. It was reported by another POW that he had actually died on the 11 Nov 1942 and was originally buried at Lucca. He is buried in the Florence War Cemetery, Italy grave III.B.5. A cross was etched on the tombstone. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour WWII Pinelands No 1 Cemetery, Cape Town and the Roll of Honour World War II West Park Cemetery Johannesburg.
