Woolf Oboler (30 June 1921 Riga, Latvia - 19 February 1965 Onrus, Western Cape South Africa) No. 44 Squadron South African Air Force, known as Wolfie, was the son of Moses Aaron Oboler (1895-1982) and Minna Oboler born Teitelbaum (1896-1979).He emigrated to South Africa in 1931. He enlisted in the Union Defence Force and served with the South African Air Force. He partook in the North African campaigns from 1941 to 1943 and in Italy.After the war, he married Naomi Ruth Norrie (1927-2003) on the 9th March 1948 in Cape Town. They had 3 children. He was the managing director of M. Oboler & Son (Pty.) Limited, one of the largest and leading manufacturing jewellery factories in Cape Town which was established by his father. Mr. Oboler played a leading part in the formation of the Cape Jewellery Manufacturers' Association. He served on the executive committee from its inception to his death and was for a period of two years its chairman. He was as a progressive employer, was a prime mover in the establishment of the Industrial Council for the Jewellery and Precious Metal Industry (Cape) and was, at the time of his death, and for six years before, its chairman.Sources: 1.
