Biography

Cyril Simon Amler (7 September 1923 Oudtshoorn, South Africa - 4 October 1969 Cape Town, South Africa) 2nd Division Armoured Corps, Union Defence Force, was the son of Joseph Amler (1896-1976) and Bertha Amler born Kramer (1901-1950) of Cape Town. He was educated at Muir College, Uitenhage, Worcester Boys' High School and the University of Cape town.

During the Second World War he served with the 2nd Division Armoured Corps in North Africa from 1940 to 1942.

He married Marion Leoné Greenberg in 1954 and they had three daughters. He was an advocate at the Cape Bar (1951-1956) and produced the first edition of the book 'Amler's precedents of pleadings'. The family lived in Vredenburg on the Cape West Coast and he practiced as an attorney in the firm Swemmer and Levin. Source: South African Jewry 1967-68 Edition.
