Biography

Woolf Aron ( 21 February 1918 Riga, Latvia - 21 May 2008 Sydney Australia) was the son of Moses and Betty Aron. He was born in Riga, Latvia and came alone to Cape Town South Africa in March 1931 at the age of thirteen. He moved to Johannesburg and at the age of 16, he was the youngest registered clothing manufacturer in South Africa, beginning with a shirt factory, then graduating to a suit and frock factory.

During World War Two he was Assistant District Commissioner of the South African Red Cross Society. He was elected Chairman of the Clothing Manufacturers of the Transvaal, President of the National Clothing Federation of South Africa and was appointed as a Justice of the Peace. He subsequently focused his business interests on household goods and acquired various agencies for household items such as Duralex from France and Rubbermaid Kitchen Products from the U.S.A. He married Beryl McAulay in 1953 in Johannesburg and they had two children. On retirement he moved to Sydney, Australia.
