Biography

Mary Dorothea Adler formerly Chaskalson (24 May 1905 Cape Town, South Africa - 20 October 1989 Johannesburg, South Africa) was the daughter of Raphael Oshry (1872-1964) and Mussa Oshry born Herring (1873-1955). She married Harry Chaskalson (1896-1936) and they had two sons. Following his death she married Dr Joseph Henry Adler (1901-1988) in 1944. The family lived in Johannesburg.

During World War Two she was a regular Red Cross worker and received a badge for her war service. She was the only woman on the Business Liaison Committee of the Governor General's War Fund. She was active in Jewish communal affairs in South Africa.
