Biography

Leslie Abraham Thal (9 October 1911 Leipzig, Germany - 23 May 1981 Harare, Zimbabwe) was the son of Maurice Thal (1874-1937) and Cecilia Thal born Rubinstein (1887-1961). He came to South Arica in 1912. His family moved to Bulawayo, Rhodesia. He was educated at Milton High School, Bulawayo. He married Beryl Rachelle Gruber on the 29 October 1946 and they had three children. The family lived in Salisbury (Harare). He was the Director of L. Thal & Co. (Pty) Ltd.

During World War Two he was a Major and served in the Royal Corps Signals with the Royal West African Frontier Forces. He was mentioned in Despatches. He also served in Burma and India.
