Biography

Theodore Eliastam (23 May 1910 Johannesburg, South Africa - 25 August 1978 Johannesburg, South Africa) known as Theo, was the son of Moses Eliastam (1872-1937) and Minnie Eliastam born Davidoff (1882-1963). His father was a farmer and he attended a farm school and then a school in Eendracht. He was sent to Jeppe High School, Johannesburg, where he was a border. Following his father's death, the family farm Holspruit was sold. Theo took over the farm Brakfontein where he planted maize and potatoes. He expanded his farming and set up Sharondale Farm in the Springs area where he was a dairy farmer. He married Isa Eliastam on the 9 June 1940 in Johannesburg. They had three children.
During World War Two he prospered suppling Army camps with produce. Although he continued farming, he enlisted in the Union Defence Force in early 1942 and took courses at Roberts Heights and obtained his captaincy. On weekend passes he attended to his farm and to his diary.
