Biography

Marco Benatar (1912 Salisbury, Rhodesia - 25 February 1945 Burma) service number 297380, 3rd Battalion, Gold Coast Regiment, Royal West African Frontier Force (R.W.A.F.F) was the son of Joseph Chilibi Benator (1878-1941) and Allegra Benator nee Cairi (1884-1949). His parents were married in Cairo Egypt. They emigrated to Rhodesia.
Prior to joining the army, he was a printer. He married Frieda Mary Sklar (1914-2012) on the 14 November 1941 in Salisbury. He was a Lieutenant and served with 3rd Battalion, Gold Coast Regiment, R.W.A.F.F. He was killed in action in Burma and is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial, Myanmar.
