Biography

Born in Oslo in 1920.
He fought in the Norwegian Army in 1940 (with no prior military experience). He then escaped to Sweden and managed to get to Canada via the Soviet Union and Japan. In Canada he trained as a navigator at the newly established training camp for the Norwegian air force in exile. He was transferred to bomber command and shot down over the Netherlands in October 1943.
He spent 19 months as a prisoner of war. Escaped six times, but was caught every time.
He had returned home as a second lieutenant in the Norwegian Air Force.
He had lost his parents, two brothers and a young niece, all of whom had been killed at Auschwitz.
He died in Los Angeles February 2013.
