קורות חיים

נולד ב-1915 בגורדוניה שבמחוז צ'רניגוב שבאוקראינה. ב-1932 התנדב ל"צבא האדום" ונשלח לבי"ס לארטילריה, אותו סיים כקצין. עם פרוץ המלחמה הוכיח את יכולתו המקצועית הגבוהה והתקדם בסולם הדרגות לסגן בכיר כמפקד סוללת מרגמות. אח"כ קודם ומונה לראש מטה גדוד מטל"ר "קטיושה" ובמחצית 42 כבר פיקד על גדוד כזה בדרגת סרן ואח"כ כרס"ן.

השתתף בקרבות בסטלינגרד, בהם הצטיין וגילה אומץ לב בפיקוד על חטיבת מרגמות, שקיבלה את התואר חטיבת גברדיה על הצטיינותה ומפקדה קיבל את עיטור הדגל האדום וקודם לאל"מ. בקרבות בבלגורוד הרסה יחידתו 33 טנקי אויב, כלי רכב רבים, 13 סוללות ו-5 פלוגות חי"ר במשך 5 ימי לחימה. חטיבתו היתה בכח החוד שפתח את הדרך לשחרורה של קייב ע"י הארמיה ה-38. כח השריון עליו פיקד צלח את הדנייפר, כשהוא מסתייע בקטיושות, שהיו גם כן תחת פיקודו והצליח להחזיק בראש הגשר שתפס, עד להגעת הכח העיקרי של הארמיה. על הצטיינותו בקרבות השונים קיבל את עיטור גיבור בריה"מ.
