Biography

Gnr Willy P Bellerstein (1904-1941), service number 82409, South African Artillery 1 Anti-Tank Regt was the son of Paul and Erna Bellerstein (nee Simons). He was born in München, Gladbach, Germany. The family emigrated to South Africa and they lived in Springs. Prior to joining the U.D.F., he was a sales representative. He was killed in action. He is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt, Column 115 and on the National Jewish War Memorial, West Park Cemetery, Johannesburg. His father Paul Bellerstein is listed under the Jewish Holocaust Memorial and Residents of Germany 1939-1945.
